THE CHALLENGE
THE CHALLANGE
Sand Castle Winery, an existing winery, has been the purveyor of fine wines with a long and noble heritage since opening in 1973. However, they were in need of a new identity system. As a lover of wine it was a fun, yet challenging, task to convey this upscale Bucks County, PA winery in a friendly and sophisticated way in order to capture an audience of many ages. While keeping within Sand Castle Winery’s inspiration of a magnificent castle in the owners hometown of Bratislava, I was able to create a new brand system that nods to past and looks to the present of this growing winery.
*This is a fictional re-brand of Sand Castle Winery – not a real brand.
STRATEGY
STRATEGY
To properly understand the wineries needs, core values, and audience along with current trends in winery brand design, I began with intense research, and it made sense to build a brand that was elegant, and sophisticated. These interventions would help Sand Castle Winery stand apart from local competitors. Wineries, such as Sand Castle, need to be visually eye catching and stand alone in their market.
VISUAL IDENTITY
VISUAL IDENTITY
Sand Castle Winery is known for their Bucks County castle. Starting with the logo design, I decided to create a system of icons and word-marks that interchange and relate to the architecture that is so prominent in the area. The main logo uses the actual architecture of the winery in Bucks County while the icons approach the idea of “royalty.” To expand the brand and pick up the idea of “sand,” I began the packaging design for the wine bottles that use a sandy, subtle, and monochromatic texture with a light feel.
It was important to create an identity that an audience of all ages could relate to. A timeless design style was the main drive yet I was still able to test the boundaries in creating this new visual system. By combining classic and elegant typography with modern textures and monochromatic effects, Sand Castle Winery was completely reimagined for the 21st century.

Sand Castle Winery’s new website needed to be simplified and to the point. The goal is to have the viewer feel like they are there. After bringing together all of the new brand assets the web design conveys a bright and airy tone with a user friendly experience.
